US Citizenship Workshop

A Literacy Workscomprehensive, interactive training workshop for tutors and teachers about naturalization and citizenship. Attendees will learn about:
  • The requirements for applying for citizenship
  • A typical U.S. naturalization timeline, from start to finish
  • Community resources for immigration-related legal assistance
  • The components of the naturalization interview (the “test”)
  • Engaging and effective teaching activities for one-on-one tutoring and group classes
  • Support for low-literacy students
  • Free online resources through USCIS for citizenship teachers and tutors
  • Presenter:  
    Karen Parrillo is the Adult Literacy Coordinator at the Chinese Mutual Aid Association and has 30 years of experience managing adult literacy programs and teaching ESL and citizenship to immigrants and refugees. Karen has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in Linguistics/TESL from Northeastern Illinois University.
