Pope John XXIII is renowned for calling the historic Second Vatican Council (1962–65), his views on equality and his final encyclical, Peace on Earth (Pacem in terris.) He was canonized a saint on April 27th 2014, by Pope Francis and is also commemorated by the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
