Protect Sacred Spaces Webinar

October 30, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Jesuit Conference Office of Justice and Ecology invites you to join a one-hour webinar hosted by the Inter-religious Working Group on Extractive Industries and Catholic Climate Covenant exploring how a faithful and just response to climate change must address the extraction and exploitation of natural resources such as coal, oil, and gas.

The speakers will share how extractive industries negatively affect their communities in the southwestern United States and the Peruvian Amazon as well as the impacts of this extractive model more broadly. We will use the Ignatian Ecological Examen to prayerfully reflect on how we can stand in solidarity with these communities bearing the brunt of environmental and human rights abuses as a result of extractive industries by reducing our consumption and shifting toward a renewable energy future.

Presenters

•    Marianne Comfort, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas

•    Sr. Joan Brown, Director of New Mexico Interfaith Power and Light

•    Fr. Peter Hughes, Missionary Society of St. Columban

We hope you can join us. Even if you can’t make the webinar on Tuesday, if you register you will receive a link to the webinar recording.
